We’d like to think we are doing ‘our bit’ towards being Green. We were the first tourism business on Exmoor to participate in the Green Tourism Business Scheme and have been awarded a Silver grade…. which for such an old building is somewhat amazing!

We have set ourselves a target of producing no more than 1 Dustbin bag of rubbish a week.

We offer a 10% discount to guests who arrive by public transport. 

In order to achieve the Green Award we implement the following measures:

• Recycle- Glass, paper, cardboard, metal and plastics.
• Compost all vegetable and fruit waste.
• Low Energy bulbs are used where possible.
• Radiator valves to control the temperature in each room.
• Measure the use of gas, electricity and water on a monthly basis and calculate the consumption against the number of visitors.
• Modern, low energy use of refrigerators, dishwashing and washing machines.
• Purchase local food.
• Shop locally.
• Maintain a wildlife area in the garden.
• Encourage gusts to enjoy Exmoor by leaving their car with us.
• Encourage guests not to leave the TV on standby.

It would be great to leave the car at home and use public transport to travel to Spears Cross. It isn’t that impossible to achieve. Taunton, just 24 miles away has an excellent mainline rail station. The town also has good coach links to major cities in the UK. From Taunton there is a really good bus service to Dunster which runs every 30 minutes…or you could come the last part of your journey by steam train courtesy of the West Somerset Railway!
